1960 in Wien geboren, 1967-83 Studien in Klavier, Rhythmik (H.-U.Staeps), Schlagwerk (K.Hammer), Tonsatz (R.Portisch) und Jazztheorie (H.Czadek) am Konservatorium der Stadt Wien, seit 1977 Mitbegründer, Pianist und Komponist in zahlreichen, im Spektrum des experimentellen Jazz angesiedelten Ensembles: NOUVELLE CUISINE BIGBAND, JUBILO ELF, STRIPED ROSES, Trio MONDAUTOS, Duo MÜTTER/CECH, CAMERATA OBSCURA. Miha Ciglar geboren 1980 in Maribor, ist Komponist und Klangkünstler, er studiert zur Zeit an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Graz/Österreich. Ursprünglich aus Maribor/Slowenien, lebt und arbeitet Ciglar nun in Westeuropa. Seit 2001 führte er seine eigenen Kompositionen für Saxophon, Gitarre, Vibraphon, Kontrabass, sowie elektroakustische Performances, interaktive Tanzperformances, Computermusik und audiovisuelle Installationen auf vielen Kunst-Festivals auf der ganzen Welt auf. Seine Arbeit hat strenge konzeptuelle Grundlagen und liegt fernab der Ausdruckswerte herkömmlicher ästhetischer Ideale. Ein wesentlicher Gegenstand dieser Auseinandersetzung ist das Problem der absoluten Bewußtheit klanglicher Wahrnehmung, das direkt mit der Frage der grundsätzlichen Legitimierung von Klangkunst zusammenhängt. Ciglars kompositorischer Zugang zu und Umgang mit technologischen Lösungen sind ähnlich und wurzeln in der Wiederaufbereitung existierenden Materials, von dessen Zerstörung, die den ursprünglich gedachten Sinn abzieht, bis zu einer Verwendung in weiteren Schaffensprozessen.
Miha Ciglar is a composer and sound artist currently studying at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz, Austria. Originally from Maribor, Slovenia, Ciglar now lives and works in Western Europe. Since 2001 he has performed his own compositions for saxophone, guitar, vibraphone, double bass, electro-acoustical performances, interactive dance performances, computer music and audiovisual installations at many art festivals all around the world. His work has strong conceptual fundaments and points away from expressive values of common aesthetic ideals. A subject of high concern and priority is the problem of absolute awareness of sonic perception which is directly connected with the question of existential legitimacy of sound art. Ciglar's compositional approach and attitude towards technological solutions are very similar and rooted in a revaluation of existent “material”, resulting in its preliminary decomposition, in order to absorb its originally suggestive character for an employment in the further process of creation.

Violarium Trio Krakau

Das Ensemble wurde 1998 von drei Absolventen der Krakauer Musikakademie gegründet, absolvierte Kurse in Stuttgart, Mannheim, Odense, Innsbruck and Dresden und gewann 2000 den 2. Preis im 4. Internationalen Krzysztof Penderecki Kammermusikwettbewerb für zeitgenössiche Musik in Krakau. Im Februar 2003 nahm das Trio als einzige Vertreter Polens am Internationalen Wettbewerb für Zeitgenössische Musik in Rotterdam teil. Im September erhielt das Violarium Trio den 2. Preis im 7. Internationalen Wettbewerb Zeitgenössischer Kammermusik in Krakau. Im März und April 2004 nahm das Ensemble an Meisterklassen mit Krzysztof Penderecki teil. Im April wurde das Trio zu einem Konzert an der Musikakademie in Breslau eingeladen. Im Juni absolvierten die Mitglieder des Violarium Trios Postgraduate-Studien an der Karkauer Musikakademie (Prof. Adam Kaczynski). Im September erhielt das Ensemble den 2. Preis im 8. Internationalen Wettbewerb für Zeitgenössische Kammermusik in Krakau. Im Oktober spielte es ein Jubiläumskonzert für Prof. Krystyna Moszumanska- Nazar. Im Jänner 2005 spielte das Violarium Trio ein Konzert für Musiker und Komponisten, die in Konzentrationslagern ums Leben kamen. Im Februar trat das Trio im Krakauer Konzerthaus im Rahmen des Projektes "Artists for Krakow`s Philharmonic" auf. Mitglieder des Ensembles traten in Uraufführungen von Krzysztof Meyers Streichquartett und Boguslaw Schaeffers 9. Streichquartett auf. Im April nahm das Violarium Trio am Internationalen Gaudeamus-Wettbewerb für Zeitgenössische Musik in Amsterdam teil. Im August gspielte es im Rahmen des 30. Internationalen Festivals „Musik im alten Krakau“. Im September spielte das Trio zur Eröffnung des 9. Internationalen Wettbewerbs für Zeitgenössiche Kammermusik in Krakau und ein In Memoriam-Konzert für Marek Stachowski.

The group was formed in 1998. The members of Trio are graduates of the Musicacademy in Krakow. Their skills developed during courses attended in Stuttgart, Mannheim, Odense, Innsbruck and Dresden. In 2000 the group received the second award in the 4th International Krzysztof Penderecki Competition of Contemporary Chamber Music in Krakow. In February 2003 the band, as the only representative of Poland, took part in the International Competition of Contemporary Music in Rotterdam. In September Violarium Trio received the second award in the 7th International Competition of Contemporary Chamber Music in Krakow. In March and April 2004 the group took part in master classes run by Krzysztof Penderecki.In April Trio was invited to play the concert at the Music Academy in Wroclaw. In June the members of Violarium Trio completed post-graduate studies in the Music Academy in Krakow, supervised by Prof. Adam Kaczynski. In September the band received the second award in the 8th International Competition of Contemporary Chamber Music in Krakow. In October the group played during a jubilee concert dedicated to professor Krystyna Moszumanska- Nazar. In January 2005 Violarium Trio played in a tribute concert to musicians and composers, who perished in nazi concentration camps. In February the band performed in Krakow`s Concert Hall during a concert under the "Artists for Krakow`s Philharmonic" project. Members of the group took part in polish premiere performances of Krzysztof Meyer`s string trio and Boguslaw Schaeffer`s the 9th string quartet. In April Violarium Trio took part in the Gaudeamus International Competition of Contemporary Music in Amsterdam.In August the musicians performed a concert at the 30th International Festival "Music in Old Cracov". In September trio played at the opening of the 9th International Contemporary Chamber Music Competition in Krakow and also the special concert "Marek Stachowski in Memoriam.

Laurence Sherr (USA)

Laurence Sherr
is Composer-in-Residence and Associate Professor of Music at Kennesaw State University in Atlanta. He has received numerous honors and awards, including the Grand Prize of the 1995 Delius Composition Contest for Journeys Within: Concerto for Flute and Chamber Ensemble. International performances of Sherr's works have been given in Holland and Switzerland, at the International Clarinet Association’s ClarinetFest in Tokyo, Japan, at the Festival Internacional de Guitarra de la Habana, and across Canada and Mexico. United States performances have been given at CAMI Hall and the Kitchen in New York City, the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, the Salvador Dali Museum, and in locations such as Los Angeles, Austin, Omaha, San Diego, Dallas, Cleveland, Minneapolis, and Tampa.
Sherr has been awarded fellowships for composition residencies by the MacDowell Colony, the Seaside Institute, the Charles Ives Center for American Music, the American Dance Festival, and the Banff Festival of the Arts. Commissions for new works have come from ensembles such as Thamyris and the Atlanta Chamber Players. Flutist Christina Guenther commissioned his Duo Concertante in conjunction with her Florida State University doctoral treatise “Laurence Sherr: Chamber Music for Flute”. Sherr is the founder and clarinetist of the Atlanta klezmer band Oy Klezmer!.
